Agenda/Curriculum Building & Pre/Post Program Analysis
During my time as a Youth Organizing Fellow, I served as one of the primary liaisons for an after-school program designed to empower students to become advocates for immigrant and gender justice through art and music. The program aimed to foster cultural awareness, confidence, and community-building skills among participants.
In this leadership role, I was responsible for developing comprehensive curricula for the entire program, including detailed daily agendas. The curriculum incorporated a variety of instructional methods, such as interactive activities, videos, presentations, and guided homework sessions, tailored to meet the needs and interests of the students.
The attached agenda provides an example of my work, with certain details redacted to protect privacy, illustrating the structure, engagement strategies, and learning objectives I implemented.
I have also included screenshots of several presentations I delivered on topics such as education reform, the objectification of women in media, gender justice, and other social justice issues.
Pre/Post-Program Analysis
To measure impact, I administered pre- and post-surveys alongside ongoing qualitative feedback. Key findings from the Summer 2019 session include:
92% of participants expressed enthusiasm to learn Korean drumming and its cultural history.
Confidence in playing an instrument increased from 67% pre-program to 91% post-program.
Team-building skills improved significantly (from 71% to 95%).
Participants demonstrated awareness of community issues and expressed intentions to apply program learnings to promote diversity, community advocacy, and personal confidence.
Lessons learned informed curriculum development for future sessions, emphasizing interactive workshops, community-building activities, goal-setting with youth, and longer music practice sessions. The program successfully cultivated both cultural knowledge and leadership skills, while inspiring participants to engage in further civic action through the program’s initiative.
