In December 2017, I joined the UndocuBlack Network and NAKASEC for the first-ever National Black-AAPI Immigrant Action Day in Washington, D.C., where 135 community members came together to demand permanent protections for DACA and TPS recipients. Building on the energy of that powerful day, the two organizations launched Woori Ujima: Black & AAPI Immigrants Building Power, a collaboration created to build solidarity rooted in love, trust, and genuine allyship between our communities.
Woori Ujima translates to “our collective work and responsibility.” Woori means “our” in Korean, and ujima is Swahili for “collective work and responsibility.”
